Sydney
Again it's been a while since we updated the website but this time it's not so much us being slack as us being both busy with finding accommodation when we arrived and ill too....Louise had woman flu (otherwise known as a cold) and I had a suspected funnel-web spider bite. Ok so I hadn't been bitten and I only had flu-like symptoms but seriously, it was as if I was dying!!!
New Years Eve was just as crazy....the big thing to do here was obviously to watch the fireworks from the harbour, only this year was their 75th anniversary, which was promised to be the biggest ones ever with over a million people apparently! Due to the high numbers of people expected, in order to get a good spot we made our way over by about 2pm, a whopping 10 hours before the fireworks! Still it was all good since once again we took our own picnic, complete with a couple of bottles of vodka-laced orange juice to help pass the time!!!
We've now been in Sydney for two weeks where we saw in Christmas and New Year. Christmas was absolutely crazy, with a harbour (booze) cruise on Christmas Eve. Unfortunately our boat was about the worst one there and called "the Fun Boat", which actually looked more like a noddy boat, but the night was the best laugh anyway! Christmas day was spent on the absolutely packed Bondi beach, soaking up the sun, sand and surf on Christmas day. Ok so you may say that we missed out on the usual Christmas dinner, but hey, we did take our own picnic consisting of steak baguettes, cheese and biscuits and fruit etc.....

Our plans after New Year were to buy a car and drive up the East Coast to Cairns. However, it was looking unlikely given their extortionate cost of cheap cars here! Luckily though we did get lucky and this afternoon we will be proud(!) owners of a rather stunning vintage (21year old) Honda Civic (video to follow!)......
...Other than that we've checked out many of the nice beaches here including Bondi, Manly, Coogee, Bronte and of course the well known Palm Beach (aka Summer Bay) where of course Home and Away is filmed (and rubbish if you claim you've never watched it, or indeed still watch it....I know you do, Nan!!!).
Oh, one other thing we did do was to visit Taronga Zoo, expecting to feed Kangaroos and hold Koalas! Unfortunately New South Wales laws don't permit either, but apparently Queensland does allow it, so more on that one later!
Well we're off now to pick up the wheels and tomorrow commence our 2730 km, 2-month road trip up the coast!!! Here's a few more pics of the Harbour/Opera house!
